There is currently a petition up to try and get google to make their
currently inaccessible word varification graphic accessible so blind users
can sign up for and use google's services, such as google groups and gmail,
without the help of a sighted friend or relative. We as blind computer
users deserve equal treatment and should not be excluded from using
Google's services just because we don't happen to have someone sighted
readily available to tell us what the characters in an image are! If Paypal
and microsoft can offer alternatives such as an audio version of the
characters for example, certainly google could do the same! We need to show
them that being blind does not give them the option of excluding us from
their services! Sign the petition located at
http://www.petitiononline.com/captcha
to get your thoughts known. As of 1:14 PM CST, there were
250+ signatures, But we need many many more, so spread the word, email your
friends, blog about it, whatever you have to do to get the word out to
those that could benefit from google making there word varification system
usable to blind and visually impaired users!
